CELEBRATING OLYMPIC DAY: A POP-UP MUSEUM BRINGING SOUTH AFRICA’S OLYMPIC STORY TO LIFE

Olympic Day Pop-Up

To mark Olympic Day, Newton Agency partnered with South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee and Fourways Mall to create a pop-up museum celebrating Olympism and its enduring values.

Located in the heart of a high-traffic public space, the activation was designed to bring Olympic history closer to people—making it accessible, tangible, and relevant beyond the traditional sporting environment.

The exhibition featured memorabilia from some of South Africa’s greatest Olympians, offering a rare, up-close look at moments that have shaped the country’s sporting identity. At its centre was a standout piece: a section of the London 2012 Olympic Games torch—an iconic symbol of unity, continuity, and excellence.

More than a display, the museum created a space for connection. It invited the public to engage with the stories behind the medals—the discipline, resilience, and ambition that define Olympic performance.

The activation reflects a broader intention: to take sport beyond competition and into everyday spaces, where its values can be seen, felt, and shared.
